Christians are called to serve one another, following the example of Jesus and his Disciples in the New Testament. 1 Peter 4:10 says “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”
This is a principle by which the Second City community is guided. We feel strongly that the members of our congregation are the hands and feet of Christ and each of us should use our gifts and talents to benefit others and help our church community function.
We have a variety of committees that work together to minister both inside and outside of our congregation – and we need your help! Talk to Pastor Peter or one of the elders to find out more about joining one of these groups.
Audio Visual Team
Our Audio Visual team works to make sure our worship services are easy to hear and easy to watch. For those who can attend our worship service in person, our audio technicians ensure music and the spoken word are able to be heard clearly by attendees. Our audio and video teams work together to produce our video stream for those who cannot attend in person or like to view again at a later date. Each week our worship service is streamed to Facebook and YouTube. If you have knowledge of or a desire to learn about audio or visual technology, please consider joining this team.
In Matthew chapter 25, Jesus said “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” In the Bible, Jesus calls us repeatedly to serve the poor and downtrodden. This is the mission of Second City’s Benevolence Team. This group works with those in need within our church body and in the larger Harrisburg community to meet various basic needs. If you have a heart for helping those in need in our community, join this group!
Bridge of Hope Team
Bridge of Hope Harrisburg Area’s mission is to engage Christian faith communities in ending and preventing family homelessness through neighboring relationships that demonstrate Christ’s love. At Second City, we are blessed to have a Neighboring Group that gets to be neighbors with a single parent and her children as they exit homelessness. The group walks alongside this family to provide friendship, love and various types of support to help them thrive.
Children's Ministry Team
Second City Church is blessed with so many children and young people, who provide a unique energy and perspective to our worship and fellowship together. Our Children’s Ministry Team provides care and age-appropriate biblical education for the children of our church community. If you love to teach or are called to work with little ones of all ages, this is the group for you.
The Second City Communications Team is charged with telling the story of Second City Church, including its mission, and sharing relevant news and updates, both internally with the church community and externally with the larger Harrisburg community and beyond. This includes designing and updating content for the church's website and social media channels, as well as advising church leadership on other ways to share information with and about the church community.
This group is the face of our church community! Our Greeters help to ensure that all visitors and attendees of our worship services feel seen and welcomed. This group also helps to ensure visitors know where to go and how to find the nursery, restrooms and other church services.
Our Hospitality Team helps to facilitate the fellowship aspect of our church community by providing and organizing food for church gatherings and events, including providing coffee and snacks in the Social Hall following our worship services each Sunday morning. The goal of this faithful group is to provide opportunities for our community to grow in unity through times of fellowship, while enjoying God's blessing of food together. Members of this group are driven by a desire to welcome and serve others in tangible ways.
Like so many buildings and spaces in Harrisburg, Second City Church is housed in a beautiful – and very old – church building. With an old building come many infrastructure needs. Our Infrastructure Committee cares for the physical needs of our church building to ensure that our church body continues to have a functioning space to worship and fellowship together.
At Second City Church, our mission field starts right here in the city of Harrisburg and extends across the globe. We partner with many missionaries and missions groups both near and far. This group is responsible for determining which missionary groups we support and how best to support them.
Second City’s Worship Team, led by church Music Director Jess Perla, leads us in musical worship every Sunday morning. This group includes those who are blessed with various kinds of musical talents from singing to playing instruments to leading worship.
